Avery Mae

It has been a long time since I have posted but forgive me.  I have been spending time with the new love in my life, my sweet Avery. I love my daughter with all my heart but the love I have for this beautiful little girl I can not put into words. She has captured our hearts and has not let go. She was born on 8/28 at 10:32 pm and was 8 lbs and 8ozs. All those 8's I will be looking up the numerology behind all of those. This baby hardly ever cries and if I had had one this good I would have had a dozen. Okay may be not, but at least one more. This little doll had a tough entrance after 18 hours of labor she was born by c-section. Grandaddy and I were up for 48 hours straight waiting on that little bundle and would not trade a minutes sleep to not be there. Besides the c-section gave me an excuse to help her Mommy and spend time with them. She brightens my life. I thought being a Mom was wonderful and fulfilling but this has to be the most gratifying most wonderful experience of my life. Her smile melts my heart and I can not wait until I get my first hug! Hurry Up And Wait VS Hurricanes

Well, Ms.Avery still has not made an appearance. The Doctor says any minute now but that was 4 days ago. I guess she wants to be a Virgo like her Dad and Grandad instead of a Leo. Her room is finished (I will post pictures when I can get them from my daughter) and her little clothes are washed and put away. The waiting is killing me.

Now we have a hurricane brewing and I hope she comes before and not during. We pray it does not take the same track Charlie took. That 2004 season with Charley, Frances and Jeanne was horrid. We lost 5 beautiful trees or roof was damaged no electricity for 2 weeks and then had to go through it again and again.
I know it was not anything like Katrina and they are still recovering but it was a mess.
So Hurry Ms. Avery we need you to out run it!!!!

The Baby Shower for Avery and Her Parents

The invitations were sent.
My Daughter ordered  these from Etsy,
I am sorry I do not know the seller but I will ask her and post it later.
These set the mood for the shower and we decided on a BBQ theme.
Brandi wanted a co-ed shower.

The RSVP's were included in the envelope. Still with the theme.

 Let the crafting begin!!
I know you all know how to make these banners.
I could not find paper to match the theme so I went to Joann's and found
the cutest watermelon fabric and now I had my colors.
I covered  heavy cardboard with spray adhesive
and then wrapped the fabric around it.

I then bought fat quarters cut strips and made the flowers.
Used felt, miniature roses and rhinestones for the centers.
I traced a stamp I had for the black felt shape and used Glitter letters.

I strung them together on black ribbon and the BABY AVERY banner was born.
I also covered some pillows I had with the left over fabric. Spreading out the
color scheme as well as providing additional seating.

I banded the candles I always have on the mantel with fabric
and buttons and just taped them on so I can change them.
I put silk flowers in white flower pots at the beginning of spring.
They matched very nicely. Funny how things work out sometimes.
More insulators.  TEEHEE

I also made the straw banners.
Okay my photography skills are pretty bad but you get the idea.

The very last thing that I did before the shower was to make
these for the cupcakes that I baked. By the third night of going to bed at midnight
I was done with these. They are so cute but no one told me what a pain they are to make.
Just sayin'
When the paper glue I used did not hold and I had to  re-glue them.....
well I won't tell ya what I said.

Here are all the goodies to make the cupcakes.

The cupcake liners and the BBQ sauce at the ready.
I was determined to enjoy this and be done before the shower.
I felt like I completely missed their wedding
'cause I did most of the decor for that

 Now to begin......

I used mason jars for glasses with the banner straws
and they were placed in an old steamer my Honey bought for me.
Knives and forks in tin buckets with chalkboard paint and labeled as such.

Here are the cupcakes I made.
On the stand is oreo crumble with a cream cheese frosting
and on the trays are watermelon.
They don't taste like watermelon they just look like one.
Pink cake with  mini-chocolate chips for seeds
and your standard butter cream frosting.

Rolls were served in an old cheese box
and way up in the right top of the table
I had napkins in a cranberry box.

The table before the guests arrive.

These were the flowers I used as Brandi does not like roses.
These are her favorite.
(Don't know where she came from, I can't get enough of roses.)

As you can see I did not get a before pic of this table.
I painted the  flower pots and used them for dips.
The basket holds baby jars with rub for BBQ for the favors.
Brandi made those for me. She did a good job, I am proud.

This is what my kitchen and family room looked like
when Hubby brought in the BBQ. He did all the barbequing that day
and it was mega yummmmmy. We had potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans.
I almost burned the beans SHH don't tell anyone K.
Chicken, ribs, pulled pork and sliced beef.

Good friends and good family. These guys have known Brandi all her life.

Momma To Be and her squad mates.

And one worn out little dog. It was tough guarding that grill all day.

I would have had more pictures but I dropped my camera on its lens
............not good.
But It was a wonderful shower and she was given such lovely things.
Thank you so much to everyone who came.

PS: I tore my camera apart, straightened out the lens, it works ok but we shall see.

A Little Somethin'

I decided to change the vignette in my kitchen window and I thought I would show you what I did with these insulators. I have a bunch of these and never knew what to do with them. I grabbed the candle holders and two battery operated mini candles placed the insulators over them and les voici!!! ( My french teacher would be proud. LOL) I am working on two new tables and will post them as soon as they are finished.

PS:  That is not an outhouse outside of my kitchen window, it is our wood box my husband built that I featured in my weekend warrior post.

How An Ugly Little Table Renewed Me

My husband and I went to the Habitat Restore to do a little browsing. Hubby bought this homely little table and said now go paint on this. Normally this would not be a big deal but.....
I started decorative painting in '92. Oh I dabbled in painting when I was younger, my father is an incredible artist and I am by no means as talented but I enjoyed it.  My family and friends are wonderful and my biggest fans, they would say what I painted was beautiful even if it wasn't. I love them for that!! I painted up to about 3 years ago.
A neighbor  lady down the street asked to see the things I painted, she was a mural artist with her own business and I was hoping she could  help and give me constructive criticism, what I got was,"Oh no one buys that type of painted stuff anymore!" Well I laughed and said I do it because I enjoy it. This rolled off my back like water off a duck. Or so I thought. Slowly I painted less and less. I had a bunch of excuses,
can't find anything worth painting, don't have enough time and my time can be better spent... etc.
The other day I was watching a motivational speaker on TV and I had, as Oprah says, an AH HA moment.
Rolled off my back!!!  NO IT DID NOT! I thought it had but it didn't. I let a women I hardly knew steal my joy! That comment all but stopped me from doing something I loved to do. I can not believe that one negative comment did that.  I am ashamed to admit that she had that much influence on me but I was in awe of her work. I have made a promise to myself that I will watch what I say to people. Not that I would EVER say to someone what was said to me, I wouldn't. We must all realize that words do hurt and may change someones course in life. If I change anyones direction, I want it to be for the better. I want to help and mentor and give them all the encouragement that I am able. Sure wish someone that I had looked up to had done that for Me!

So.. I picked up this little guy and I sanded and I primed....

.......and I painted.

Ya know, it felt pretty good. I still have a long long way to go, this time with a renewed sense of why I paint! Because I want to and I like it and from now on I am going to enjoy this journey.

Paper Bag Bathroom Redo

This is how our guest bathroom looks now.
I originally put venetian plaster on the walls of this bathroom
and I did like it but it was very stark.
The plaster is still on all the walls except the wall you see when you enter.
This is done completely with brown paper grocery bags
torn into small pieces and attached to the wall with wallpaper paste.
You can seal it if you like, I did not because I prefer easy removal.
I also painted the ceiling gold. I love the warm glow it gives the bathroom.

A new towel rod and toilet paper holder.

Cabinet was painted.

Builders mirror replaced with one with a frame.

I have a project in mind for this space.
I will share on a later post.

This is the way the bathroom looked  before cosmetic surgery.

Yeah, this was before teal was cool.
I was ahead of my time.
LOL

I still kind of miss this look.
Until next time!!
